Building Reading Response Skills Early!

I am a believer that it's never too early to introduce skills as long as they are grade level appropriate.  We are starting to learn about responding to reading with our writing.  One of the easiest ways for a young students to respond to reading is asking them what their favorite part of a book was.  This week we are reading "Down On the Farm" by Scholastic and is included in our Harcourt curriculum.  I love modeling for students and cannot stress enough how important it is for teachers to model reading and also how we thinking when we read.  I created a worksheet to help support this modeling and am happy to share this with you at my TpT store!

I think it is also important to encourage drawing to support how an illustrator matches the pictures to the writing is the book and this is supported in this worksheet.  The project also includes and editable sheet so you can add your own book covers to match the needs of your classroom.  My hope in including a picture of the cover is to help parents see the books we are reading and encourage them to pick up a book or two that their child enjoys for their home library.

Enjoy!

Wow, it 's been almost a year since my last post!  In my defense we put our home on the market and bought a new/old home:)  We have been remodeling the kitchen so that has taken quite a bit of my time....ok let's be honest...my husband's time!

I am excited to share a new product! Building Numbers 1-20 activity.

I hope you enjoy it as much as my students do!
